Abstract
This paper presents an evaluation of the IEEE 802.11e standard. The standard has been introduced to support applications with Quality of Service requirements and to improve the protocol efficiency. We focus on the EDCA (Enhanced Distributed Coordination Access) mechanism of 802.11e MAC and compare it to legacy DCF (Distributed Coordination Function). Moreover, some of the most promising 802.11e mechanisms employed to improve protocol efficiency are tested, and considerations about additional MAC improvements useful for high data rate protocol (802.11n) are included. Performance evaluation is obtained through ns-2 simulations. |
