| Geneva, November 21, 2006 - At the European Union’s prestigious IST 2006 (Information Science and Technology) conference, being held in Helsinki, Finland, from November 21-23, Carlo Bozotti, President and CEO of STMicroelectronics, is participating in the High Level Session entitled “An innovative Europe - are we making progress?”, along with Ms. Viviane Reding, Commissioner for Information Society and Media; Mr. Esko Aho, Former Prime Minister of Finland and Mr. Alexander Von Witzleben, CEO of Jenoptik. Carlo Bozotti is ideally placed to contribute to this important debate, which takes as its starting point the “Aho Report,” issued in January 2006, whose key conclusions include the need for Europe to maintain a world-class R&D environment. Bozotti played a key role in pioneering the strategic alliances that have made such an important contribution to ST’s success since its foundation in 1987 and has continued to champion the benefits of pan-European pre-competitive cooperation. Bozotti will bring to the High Level Session many examples of ST’s innovation in Europe as illustrations of the actions that should be taken to promote innovation and thus leverage economic growth in Europe. In the afternoon session, devoted to the theme of the Internationalization of Research and Technological Development, Laurent Gouzenes (Vice President, France R&D and Public Affairs Coordination) will also address the conference on the subject of ST's experience in R&D, internationalization and the new challenges brought by the world competition in microelectronics. This an area in which ST has considerable expertise to share, as it has a long track record of successful R&D collaborations with enterprises and institutions around the world, including blue-chip strategic partners and some of the world’s most renowned universities and research institutes. In addition, ST will participate actively in the technical “networking” sessions taking place during the event, in particular in those sessions organized by the ARTEMIS (Advanced Research & Technology for Embedded Intelligence and Systems) and ENIAC (European Nanoelectronics Initiative Advisory Council) European Technology Platforms where ST is playing a leading role. ST is active in numerous collaborative research projects worldwide as well as playing a key role in Europe’s advanced technology research programs such as MEDEA+ and the framework programs of the European Union. Currently, ST participates as coordinator or project partner in more than 50 IST projects. About STMicroelectronics
