System Overview
As the energy metering industry converts from electromechanical meters to more accurate solid-state meters, power-system designers have a chance to incorporate new features that were not previously possible.
Today’s electricity companies are demanding more information from meters in the residential sector, where metering has typically been limited to kilowatt hours. New features such as multi-tariff billing, reactive energy measurement and power quality monitoring are desirable to improve generation, customer service, and billing. Another important feature for solid-state meters is automatic meter reading (AMR) that makes meters capable of being read remotely by the utility company.
ST provides a wide product range addressing all aspects of metering applications, helping you reach your goals of low power consumption, high reliability, robustness and accuracy over a wide current dynamic range.
The new device STPM01 incorporates all the core circuitry required to implement fully electronic electricity meters. The STPM01 addresses a wide range of electricity metering requirements, operating as a standalone power meter in the simplest basic equipment or as a peripheral in the advanced microprocessor-based meters. Moreover the advanced BiCMOS technology allows the STPM01 to reach high performance in terms of accuracy, allowing the support of IEC62052-11 and IEC62053-2X specifications.
STMicroelectronics also offers a range of mono-phase and three-phase reference designs with both basic and advanced features.
