Targeting new growth segments for analog integrated circuits, ST has introduced a new highly integrated, low noise microphone pre-amplifier for portable applications. The TS472 is the first in a new line of products focused on analog and mixed signal ICs for power-sensitive, battery-operated applications such as flash-based music players, personal media players, mini-displayers/recorders, PDAs, smart phones, digital camcorders and digital voice recorders.

Functional Description

The TS472 is a high-performance audio pre-amplifier suitable for microphone pre-amp applications. Designed with an advanced BICMOS process, the output gain is adjustable via one external resistor, making it possible to control gain over a wide range from 0 to 40dB, reaching 10dB gain with a 27kOhms resistor, and 0dB gain with a 470Ohms resistor. The TS472 exhibits significantly lower noise at low gains, wider bandwidth, higher slew rate, lower distortion, and lower supply current. The part features internal ESD overload protection on all critical pins. The device offers a low supply current of 10nA in standby mode, excellent power supply rejection ratio, around 80dB from the output bias reference. It offers a low output impedance over the voice bandwidth. The TS472 provides a low-noise output voltage BIAS reference designed for biasing electric condenser microphone cartridges. The BIAS output is regulated typically at 2V. This BIAS output can source up to 3mA.
