Customizable Application Processors

STMicroelectronics' customizable processor family, called SPEAr® (structured processor enhanced architecture), supplies a powerful digital engine that offers the possibility of designing special user functions in a fraction of the time and with low investment. The family is based on an ARM core architecture that maximizes hardware and software performances; it includes an advanced bus system, and IPs for connectivity and memory interfaces. The user functions are embedded in a configurable logic block. This provides high performances, with a quick development cycle and full custom design capabilities.

The innovative SPEAr® concept comprises a set of sophisticated and modern IPs. These are easily customized and provide optimized solutions for specific requirements. SPEAr closes the gap between the high flexibility of a full ASIC approach with the low cost of ownership of the ASSP approach. It shortens time to market to a few weeks, and lowers NRE (non recurring engineering), resulting in unprecedented cost savings.

Ideal for all embedded applications, the SPEAr by ST family addresses a variety of applications, including digital engines for printers, scanners and other embedded control applications.
