Due to the ever increasing demand for more power and current capability, ST has been housing its MOSFETs in the power version of the SO-8, also known as PowerSO-8. This represents one of the most advanced package solutions to-date.
|
The thermal improvement due to the exposed slug can be traced from the Rthj-pcb curves below, where the standard SO-8 and the PowerSO-8 have been compared.
Mounting this device on a 600mm2 copper board, thanks to the lower thermal resistance a 20% power gain is made.
Furthermore, by coupling the clip to the PowerSO-8, the RDS(on) is reduced and the current capability is boosted.

A wide product range at 30V, 100V and 200V will be created, housing the most advanced technologies such as StripFET III and MDmesh II. These products are perfectly suited for applications such as Synchronous Rectifiers in DC-DC Converters (30V) or as main switches in the primary side of isolated DC-DC Converters (100V or 200V).
