AN1604 APPLICATION NOTE
HOW TO USE ST7MDT1-TRAIN WITH ST72F264
by Microcontroller Division Applications
INTRODUCTION
This application note describes how to upgrade the ST7MDT1-TRAIN originally designed for the ST72C254 and its subsets (in SDIP32), to be compatible with the ST72F264 and its subsets (also in SDIP32 package). The modifications described in this application note still allow to use the board with the ST72C254. For more information concerning the general differences between these two products, please refer to the application note AN1365.
1 DIFFERENCES IMPACTING THE BOARD
1.1 PINOUT The only pinout differences concern the ISP/ ICP pins (In-Circuit Programming pins):
ST72C254 and Subsets SDIP32 Package ISPCLK (pin 5) ISPDATA (pin 6) SO28 Package ISPCLK (pin 5) ISPDATA (pin 6) ST72F264 and Subsets SDIP32 Package ICCCLK (pin 29) ICCDATA (pin 28) SO28 Package ICCCLK (pin 25) ICCDATA (pin 24)
Th e In-Situ Programming of the ST72C254 has been changed in In-Circuit Programming based on the In-Circuit Communication for the ST72F264 (please refer to the "ST7 Protocol ICC reference manual" available on http://www.st.com/stonline/books/pdf/docs/8227.pdf for more information). So these 2 pins have to be rewired. For this, solder a wire between:
s s
ISPDATA (pin 2) of the ISP connector and pin 28 of the SDIP32 package on the board ISPCLK (pin 4) of the ISP connector and pin 29 of the SDIP32 package on the board
ISPCLK and ISPDATA MCU I/Os (pins 5 and 6 of the SDIP32 package) are still connected to the ISP/ICP connector in order to support the ST72C254 product. So, jumpers on PB5 and PB6 connecting these respective I/Os to LEDs through resistors have to be removed during a

In-S itu Programming operation. This also means that PA0 is connected to PB6 and PA1 to PB5. Care should be taken when using these I/Os. 1.2 ICCCLK/PA0 PIN The ICCCLK pin on the ST72F264 device is the alternate function of PA0. On the ST7MDT1TRAIN board, PA0 is connected to a push-button in order to use external interrupt capability, as follows: Figure 1. PA0 Connection Diagram
There is a capacitor in the push-button circuitry to avoid rebounds which can corrupt the ICC communication. So, cut the track between PA0 and the push-button circuitry and then rewire the push-button circuitry to another pin unused by the board (PA2 or PA3 for instance, which have no alternate function). To check the connections and the I/Os used on the board, you can refer to Figure 2. or, for more details, to the ST7MDT1 manual available on Internet (http://ccd.sgp.st.com/stonline/ books/pdf/docs/7421.pdf). 1.3 IMPROVEMENTS You can also connect OSCIN pin to pin 9 of the ISP/ICP connector in order for your MCU to be always clocked by the tool (like the EPB) if a wrong clock option has been programmed in the option byte, which may disable the on-board clock.
